I was just listening to street interviews in Harlem and heard more than one person say that Michael Richards should be locked up for his awful crime. This was on the Howard Stern, so you can imagine they were baiting the interviewees when they then asked what should be done with OJ. You can imagine the responses. Kill Kramer. And God bless OJ.<br /><br />Jesse Jackson profited from this by having Michael Richards on his radio show for an on-air apology. Did anybody realize that Jesse had a show before this? And what thanks did he give? The next day, he called for a boycott of all things Seinfeld. Are you kidding? This is is coming from a man who is a racist without question. Anybody remember Hymie town? How about his admitting that he spit in white people's food when he was a server in his youth? I think the Reverend is a brilliant speaker and his reading of 'Green Eggs and Ham' on Saturday Night Live soon after the passing of Theodor Geisel was one of my favorite SNL moment's ever. But he is a divider that would have turned the stomach of the man he once idolized, Mr. Martin Luther King.<br /><br />I do have to give Mr. Richards some credit. (Why do people such as Mr. Jackson and the news media insist on calling this guy Kramer? Wake up, Kramer is not real). He could easily have written this thing off as a joke that was ill-timed and ill-executed but he freely admits he was in a rage at the time and that he is seeking counseling to deal with his racism.<br /><br />Of course, the hypocrisy of this is mostly missed. How many black comics get on the very same stage that Mr. Richards uttered this profanity and throw the same word around with impunity and get laughs and bucks for it? Don't give me the bullshit line that it's okay for blacks to use this word but not whites. Can you explain that to my 10 year old daughter? I doubit it and neither can I so that word is considered repulsive in my home so as not to confuse the issue. I do applaud the calls in the past few days for all people to stop using this word. And in my mind, it has to start with the black comics and hip-hop stars. Maybe I should be more patient and give them time to huddle up before they get to business. Or maybe they just weren't ready for it and that this turn of events was due much more to folks just wanting to get rid of the bad that they had than in a desire for the alternative.<br /><br />I'll take that. For now. So now we have the ball.
